How Embroidery Works

Three steps from artwork to finished garments. The middle one is the part print does not have.

Send your logo

Share the artwork, the garments you want and the quantity. Any file we can see clearly is enough to start — we will tell you if it needs redrawing.

We digitise it

Your logo is converted into a stitch file: a one-off £25 charge for a front position, £30 for a back. That file stays on record, so repeat orders skip this step entirely.

Approve and stitch

You approve the size and placement, then the run is stitched in-house in Birmingham and dispatched UK-wide, usually within 3–5 working days.

Embroidery or Print?

Most orders are obvious once you know the rule of thumb. Send the artwork if you are unsure and we will tell you which finish will look better on your garment.

Choose embroidery when

  • The garment is a polo, fleece, softshell, cap or beanie
  • It is staff uniform that will be washed hundreds of times
  • You want a premium, textured finish rather than a flat one
  • The logo is simple enough to read at chest or cap size

Choose print when

  • The artwork is photographic, gradient-heavy or many-coloured
  • The design is large — a full front, back or all-over graphic
  • You need fine detail or small text reproduced exactly
  • You are printing t-shirts or hoodies in volume on a budget

How much does custom embroidery cost in the UK?
Embroidery is priced per garment plus a one-off digitising charge for new artwork — £25 for a front position and £30 for a back. Once your logo has been digitised there is no further setup charge, so repeat orders only pay the garment and stitch price. Send the logo, garment and quantity and we will quote the exact figure.
What is digitising and why is it needed?
An embroidery machine cannot read a JPG or PDF. Digitising converts your logo into a stitch file that tells the machine the stitch type, direction and order. It is done once per logo per position, checked on a test sew-out, and then kept on record for every future order.
Is there a minimum order for embroidery?
No. We will embroider a single polo or fleece as readily as a run of three hundred. The only fixed cost on a first order is digitising, which is why very small first orders can look proportionally more expensive than repeats.
Which garments can you embroider?
Polo shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, fleeces, softshell jackets, gilets, hi-vis, chef jackets, aprons, beauty tunics, school sweatshirts and cardigans, towels, and caps and beanies. Caps are stitched on a dedicated cap frame rather than a flat frame, which is what keeps the logo straight on the curve.
How large can an embroidered logo be?
A standard left-chest logo is around 8–10cm wide, a back or jacket logo can run to 25–30cm, and a cap front is limited by the panel — usually about 11cm wide and 5cm high. Very fine text below roughly 5mm tall will not stitch cleanly, so we will flag it and suggest a redraw before production.
What artwork files do you accept for embroidery?
Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF, SVG) are ideal. High-resolution PNG or JPG also works for most logos. If you only have a photo of an old garment or a low-resolution file, our design team can redraw it before digitising.
How long does an embroidery order take?
First orders need a little longer because of digitising and sew-out approval — typically a few working days end to end. Repeat orders go straight into production and are usually dispatched within 3–5 working days. Tell us your deadline and we will confirm a realistic date before you commit.
Will embroidery survive industrial washing?
Yes. That is the main reason uniform buyers choose it over print. Stitched thread does not crack, peel or fade the way a transfer eventually can, so an embroidered polo stays legible for the working life of the garment.
